Figuring out Rest & Sleep
I think I finally cracked the code on rest. 🛌
Rest is often associated with sleeping, but it's much more than that. It includes activities such as zoning out while watching Netflix, playing on the PS5, or shipping a project and could include even a sleep marathon over the weekend.
Proper rest involves taking breaks between work, decompressing, identifying which projects give us energy and which don't, and spending time with a closed circle of friends or family. It took me a year to figure out how to rest properly. I had to learn how to rest between sprints of projects, how to decompress before jumping back into the next piece of work, and why I should keep shipping my side-projects without a timeline.
The concept of rest may seem simple, but it's like a jellyfish that goes through periods of rest, which can be considered a form of inactivity. During these periods, they may reduce their swimming activity and stay relatively still in the water.
Like learning a skill is expected why are we not taught how to rest and how to recharge and maybe they are simple that we have complicated them. IDK 🤷♀️
I hope these insights help you see that rest comes in different forms, not just actual sleep. Whether it's taking a walk in nature, reading a book, or spending time with loved ones, find what works for you and make it a part of your routine.
